Organize and Store Holiday Bows

If you love holiday bows, whether the holiday is Christmas or somebody's birthday, you'll need a place to store them. You want to keep your bows accessible, organized and crush-free. Here's the best in bow storage ideas.

The main thing to remember when organizing paper or foil holiday bows or gift bows is that you don't want to store them in any manner that would crush them. You want to keep them in a fluffy pile. The best way to do that and still keep your bows handy for using to wrap gifts or in craft projects is to store them in a portable tote.

The Sterilite totes sold in the container/hamper section in stores like Wal-mart and Target are perfect for storing bows. These containers are totes with handles that come in small to medium sizes (perfect sizes for storing a single pack or a few packs of holiday bows loose in them).  This Plastic Container from Stacks and Stacks, which didn't have the brand listed, looks the exact same as the Sterlite totes. A set of three of these small containers from Stacks and Stacks costs about $14. They also sell them in larger sizes. You can even fit this container into your larger holiday storage bin. Note that while the above pictured tote has a blue lid (versus red or green for a color-coded xmas storage system), it's translucent--so you can see what's in it regardless.

Food storage containers or bowls with lids are another bow storage option though not as good as using the customized totes mentioned above. The reason is that unless you have just the perfect size and shape food storage container, it's going to fit the bows awkwardly, not stack well with your other holiday containers and it likely won't fit into your color-coded holiday storage system.

Whatever container you use for bow storage, know that you can sort your bows by colors into more than one container. For instance, at Christmas you may like to use red, green, silver and gold bows. Put those in one container with the red color lid. Then put year-round bows that you use for birthday gifts such as pastel colors in another container with a blue lid. Or put all paper bows in one container and all foil bows in another container.

Since the containers pictured and sold above for bow storage are translucent, you won't need to label them. But if your bow storage container is not see-through, be sure to tape on a label of the contents.
