Organizing Your Bathroom Counters

♦How many hairsprays or hand
lotions can you use at once? If the answer is one, stop buying multiple items.
If you buy a toiletry and decide you hate it, trash it. Don't save it for
"emergency" days. It's not worth the space to keep a toiletry you'll use three
times a year when you run out of your favorite item. And it'll expire eventually
anyway.
♦Now organize your bathroom counters by organizing your
toiletries (toothpaste, hairbrushes, hairspray, etc.) Buy a portable caddy or
basket with a divider(s) and a handle to keep on
the counter or under the counter in the cabinet. Usually these are about six to
10 inches long and wide. You'll find them in the bathroom or organizing section
of a store and in the picnic or kitchen section. (People use flatware caddies or
picnic caddies for holding and
separating forks, knives and napkins.) Use the caddy or container with dividers
to hold your daily toiletries such as hairspray, lotion, toothpaste and
hairbrushes.
♦While this
Vanity Organizer - Acrylic by U.S. Acrylic sold by Organize.com
isn't a wicker basket or portable picnic/flatware caddy, it is exactly the same in concept. And
perhaps it's even better than a basket because it
wipes clean easily and quickly. I personally use a divided basket made from
willow shaped liked this vanity organizer in the bathroom but not all
wicker or basket materials are durable in bathroom temperatures, which makes
acrylic a great choice if you prefer low maintenance accessories.
♦For little items like cotton swabs and cotton balls, hair pins and more, try using the
Mesh Spinner
at Stacks and Stacks sold for the kitchen in your
bathroom on the counter; it has two small and two large compartments and spins
on a Lazy Susan.
♦For organizing cosmetics in drawers or on the
counter, check out these
cosmetic organizers.
♦Or think out of the box with this
Narrow Lined Drawer Organizer by Made Smart
sold by Organize.com.
It's for the kitchen but wouldn't that fit perfect in a narrow bathroom cabinet
drawer? It has three compartments and they're a bit elevated, or tiered,
so you can see everything in it at a glance.
♦Need a place to hang the blow dryer? Stores sell
blow dryer racks that usually have a shelf too and sometimes storage for a
curling iron. You mount the blow dryer holder/rack on the wall.
But you can
improvise by finding a rectangular vinyl coated wire basket that you mount to
the wall securely with screws. Search in the bathroom accessory section of major
discount retailers.
But if the bin comes with suction caps to adhere it to the
wall, don't use them. Secure it to the wall with screws so that it holds the
weight of the blow dryer.
Below is one hair dryer rack
sold by Organize.com. They also sell the
Hair Care Center - Hair Dryer and Curling Iron Holder
which is made of white coated steel and has a wire look. The hair dryer
organizer below is translucent but solid acrylic. Both mount to the wall or
inside of a cabinet door.
