No Ripped Recipes - Ways to Organize
Your Recipes + Places to Buy Recipe Boxes
Organizing your recipes can be quite simple when you make
your own recipe book. First, buy a 1 1/2" three-ring notebook at the
office supply store or in the school supply section of any discount retailer.
Buy a package of 8 1/2 "x 11" acid-free three-ring translucent top-loading sheet
protectors.
Put every recipe you copy or tear from a magazine into a
sheet protector. You can tape each clipped recipe to an 8 1/2" x 11" piece of
paper. To save space, you can put two recipes (two pieces of paper) back-to-back in one
sheet protector. (But if you do put recipes back-to-back, you'll spend a little
more time later if you decide to rearrange the order of them.)
Then put these sheet protectors into your new three-ring
notebook. If
you want to get fancy, buy notebook dividers with attached tabs (also from the
office supply store). Use the dividers and tabs to create your own sections in
the notebook (e.g. Mom's recipes, desserts or whatever labels mean something to
you).
Buy notebooks that have plastic sleeves on the front and sides so
you can slide in your own title pages (Use plain paper or card stock). But if
they don't have these plastic sleeves for title pages, you can make a
label by hand or with a label maker gadget.
When you're using a recipe in the kitchen, use a magnet to
hold the plastic sheet protector (that's holding the recipe) against the
refrigerator or freezer door for easy reading (without touching it with dirty
hands). Some plastic and metal bag clip holders also have a magnet on the back.
So you'd put the recipe in the clip teeth and the magnet that's on the back of
the clip holds the clip to the refrigerator.
If you prefer recipe cards and recipe card boxes, try
Organize-Everything. They carry several recipe card boxes plus recipe card
holders that you can set on a counter to hold the one recipe you're cooking.
Here are just two of their recipe card boxes (more on the
next page-recipe box):

If you're looking for prepared recipe cards and recipe card
sleeves, Walter Drake once carried these (and may still).
