What's in your home? Expecting insurance to cover your
valuables in case of loss?
Getting insurance to cover your valuables?
Then it would be a good idea to inventory your valuables so
you know better what you have.
♦Some people think making a video recording is the way to go when taking
a home inventory. Walk
room-by-room through your home with your camcorder taping as needed. A logical
way to do this might be to start at the room door and go clockwise or
counterclockwise so you don't miss a thing, including closets. In closets, look
up and down in columns or look horizontally in rows so you don't miss anything.
♦Don't go by memory of what valuables you remember having. As
you record an item, say its visual description, serial number, model and any
other descriptive information. That's assuming you have and know how to work the
audio on your camcorder (or even your digital camera if it has audio too).
♦If you've got a pile of important receipts stashed somewhere, record
prices and film or photograph the receipts close-up.
♦Also, when taking a home inventory, consider using home
inventory systems already prepared such as software programs (search the Web for
some of these).
